3 Bay Ortner Rapid Discharge Hopper Chesapeake & Ohio (Chessie System)

This black 3-bay Ornter rapid-discharge hopper has yellow lettering and runs on black Barber? roller bearing trucks. Built in September 1976, 200 "Rapid Discharge" hoppers were stenciled with the "Ches-C" logo designed by Franklin Carr and numbered into the 45000-45299 series. H-61 class 3-bay Ortners are rated at 100 tons, fall within "Plate C" clearances and can hold 2, 100 cubic feet level full. The H-61 Ortners often served the Chessie as unit train limestone haulers in their Virginia Roack Runner trains. The "Rapid Discharge" design self-clears through the rails within 30 seconds and is perfect forcarrying heavy aggregate.
