Vintage Bus Lines US55033
St.Louis Car Company PCC Streetcar Diecast Model
MUNI, San Francisco, CA, #US55033
Car 1038 was one of 25 PCC cars (1016 through 1040) built for the San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) in 1951-1952 on order 1652 by Saint Louis Car Company. MUNI originally had proposed a car of their own design more suitable to their needs but Saint Louis Car Company wanted to exit the streetcar business and responded with their stock 1945 PCC design in the 108" width. These cars used Westinghouse electrical gear and were the last PCC cars built in the United States. Car 1038 was one of only two cars given this Landor paint scheme, the other being car 1040. No other streetcars would be built in the United States until the Boeing Light Rail Vehicles in the 1970s. Car 1040, the very last car, is still operational in San Francisco.
